In the City was done as part of my personal project at the SVA Summer Illustration Residency. I decided to make a wordless book inspired by one of my favorite songs, The Gladdest Thing by Deb Talan (who also happens to be 1/2 of The Weepies, one of my favorite singers). I interpreted the song as being about hope, making connections, and finding beauty in everyday things, and it led me to this story. Check out the song here, it's lovely!
For our exhibit, I made 3 watercolor paintings and a digitally-colored book dummy.
