I was commissioned by clothing brand Plastered 8 to create a fun, playful pattern for summer 2021, something loud and in-your-face to help get over the gloom of 2020. They asked for retro icons and memories from Beijing and China, symbols of their brand, to be mixed with colorful flowers and plants. It was definitely a challenge working on a big, detailed pattern like this, but I learned a lot and am itching to make more!
I made the sketches digitally first, to figure out how the pattern would come together. Then I colored the finals with colored pencils and stitched it together with Photoshop.
